Aria Dehdari – WIN Youth Delegate on CEDAW and CSW68

Prior to attending, I found myself disheartened by the distressing state of geopolitics. However, witnessing the dedication of both seasoned activists and enthusiastic young individuals working tirelessly to effect positive change in the world gave me hope. These individuals are true champions for progress.

The meeting was a perfect forum for exchanging experiences and ideas. The format, from the seating arrangement to the timing and order of speeches, allowed everyone to discuss their fights against inequality. It was impressive to observe people from diverse backgrounds coming together to address similar injustices, each in their own unique context.

Being in the company of such devoted individuals felt like a true blessing. I hold a deep admiration for those with compassionate hearts, and that is the most fitting way to describe them.

My participation in the CSW was truly enlightening. Initially, I had conflicting feelings about it, but I was stunned to see so many professionals genuinely dedicated to addressing the global challenges faced by the world population. Their unwavering commitment to fostering more equitable societies is truly inspiring.

While the progress made by the UN, as evidenced by the forums and panels I have engaged with, are praiseworthy, it remains disheartening that millions worldwide continue to endure hunger, with rates on the rise.

I firmly believe the younger generation must take on leadership positions.  Their willingness to challenge conventions serves as a catalyst for progress. It is necessary upon the older generation to support them by passing on wisdom and guidance, without blocking their path forward.

I am aware of the UN’s efforts to empower young people, yet in my opinion, there is room for further enhancement in this regard.
